Message of the month
Just Lost Your Job? Is this Your Perfect Opportunity?
Laid off - Redundant - Let Go
Do these words fill you with dread, anger, uncertainty or fear? Or are you secretly shouting “Yes!”.
Have you ever noticed that ‘good’ things come out of what you initially thought was a major problem?
It’s likely you will experience a raft of emotions as you go through this process and the future can look bleak if you allow it to. If your whole identity is tied up with your work, this loss can be a devastating blow to your concept of who you are and your place in the world. The financial implications alone can be overwhelming.
Yet, this seeming crisis could be masking the opportunity you have craved to lead a different life, or to provide you with a better job, better working conditions, work or environment more suited to you. You may have experienced boredom, dissatisfaction, frustration, a sense of disconnection to the work you had until now been engaged in. Maybe you just buried those feelings, as making a change would require too much energy or attention.
Redundancy is often an opportunity to get fully connected to your ‘self ‘ - a chance to explore and re-examine your whole life and not just what you ‘do’ for an income.
Embrace your true Potential
Seizing this opportunity could be a significant defining time in your life. Truly question yourself. Look back on what you loved to do as a child, what dreams have you been carrying with you all those years in your old job, what skills have you underused or not had the opportunity to extend to date. What possibilities are there now, what do your friends tell you you’re brilliant at – do you do that in your daily work? Identifying your skills, what you really want and the resources available to you can make this potential crisis be the most rewarding, enjoyable and empowering time of your life so far.
